FAQ

frequently asked questions:

teas & tisanes

q: what is the difference between teas and tisanes?

a: tea leaves all come from the same plant – camellia sinensis (there are 2 main varieties of this plant used to make tea).  what a versatile plant!  yep, green tea, white tea, oolong tea and black tea including english breakfast, ceylon, pu-erh, darjeeling, assam etc. all come from this plant.  ingredients in tisanes or herbal teas come from other plants, the most common being peppermint, chamomile, ginger, lemongrass and liquorice root.

q: if all tea leaves are made from the same plant, why do they taste so different and why are there many varieties?

a: there are many considerations, however predominately, the differences include the plants geography, cultivation of leaves, and how the leaves are processed, rolled, fermented or dried.  There is a plethora of information regarding tea cultivation on the internet if your would like further information.

q: are your teas and tisanes suitable for pregnant women?

a: prior to drinking any teas or tisanes, it is always best to check with your doctor, midwife or obstetrician for advice.  any tisane that contains yarrow, liquorice root, ginseng, st. john’s wort, dong quai, pennyroyal or ephedra are well known as being big no-no’s for pregnant women.  usually peppermint and ginger teas are pregnancy safe so our manic monday tisane is what we would recommend (especially to assist with nausea), however again, please check with your physician prior to having any herbal tea.  keep in mind that everybody’s health needs differ so what might be all well and good for one person, may not be suitable for another.

candles

q: i have bought scented candles previously, however some do not smell when they burn.  how do i know if your candles scent will throw well?

a: this was a problem that plagued us for years, when candle making was just a hobby for us.  we finally found the right fragrance to wax combination, using the best pure soy wax and oil fragrance suppliers we could find.  our candles have been tried and tested numerous times and the scent intensity is guaranteed to throw well.  you will not be disappointed!

preserves

q: are your preserves pregnancy safe?

a: there are no unnatural additives or pectins added to our preserves.  we use lemon as a natural pectin  and the alcohol used in our preserves is only a small amount and is mostly burnt off.  of course, it is up to each individual to decide whether or not our preserves are suitable for them so please check the ingredients listed and if you are unsure, please check with your physician.
